Cathy Korotkin

From paintings to jewelry, sewing to quilting, drawing to gardening, Cathy is creative to the bone.

What inspired you or led to your current career?
I started doing arts and crafts with my grandmother when I was a little girl and it was my calling from the start. My studio is my happy place. When I finish a design or work of art I am the happiest.

How long have you lived in Sandy Springs?
My mother was born in Conyers and I grew up there on 5 acres where we had a vegetable garden and chickens back when Conyers was a very small town. I moved to Sandy Springs 32 years ago and have watched it grow too.

Who is the most interesting person you have met here?
A homeless man I first met at a local breakfast place here who has schizophrenia. I have known him for 20 years or so. On a good day we can talk about anything – discussions from books to art. He comes from a well to do family in Buckhead, but on a bad day, it is best to avoid him.

What is something unique about you?
I go to local restaurants and meet all kinds of people who I love to talk to and get to know. I enjoy mentoring and tutoring some of them who are interested in getting their GED but can’t afford the classes. I love to teach them the material. I have the books and I make up tests for them. Getting a GED can change your life

Choosing anyone alive who would you like to have lunch with?
Bill Gates as he seems to be so genuine and laid back and gives back so much

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
Japan to see the gardens and a traditional Japanese tea presented. I do have friends who are Sandy Springs residents who now live in Japan

What is on your bucket list?
There are only 3 states that I haven’t been to yet. North & South Dakota and Wyoming. I would like to visit all of them.

What advice would you give to people?
Think everything over very carefully. Make a pro vs con list and go back over it a second time and give it much thought. Rash decisions need ointment

What words come to mind when you think of the word home?
Kitchen, Comfort, Safety

Debbie Soneshine of The Sonenshine Teamwould love your Faces nominations.
