Sydney Fialkow

Sydney is a young woman who will definitely make a difference in this world! She is bright, energetic, compassionate, and focused. Combining her interest in health care, Spanish speaking skills, and her love to travel, she hopes to realize her goal of becoming a travel nurse helping people in underserved communities. She has already done volunteer work in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic and traveled to Spain and Cuba.

Where do you go to school?
I am a graduating Senior at The Weber School in Sandy Springs

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have 3 brothers. I am the only girl. I am really close to my mom and dad and my whole family is football crazy.

Please tell us about your current plans after high school.
I am so excited that I am going to the University of Florida and planning to study nursing. I just love the town of Gainesville, Florida, and knew as soon as I visited that this was where I belonged.

What do you love about Sandy Springs?
Everyone is so friendly here – no one is a stranger. I feel so lucky to live here!

What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Dunkin Donuts because one of my best friends works there and I love Rumi’s Kitchen and for lunch Breadwinner and Flower Child. I am very excited about General Muir opening soon!

What is the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?
My teacher, Olivia Rocamora gave me the best advice. She advised me to keep pushing through on your ideas because if you keep following through it may result in something incredible.

What is your favorite month?  holiday?
That is easy, I just love the week in November around the 21st – the 28th.  My birthday, school trip, and Thanksgiving (which is my favorite holiday) are all during this week.

Who inspires you the most?
My mom, she works and volunteers and takes care of the whole family. She is the full package and I want to be just like her.

Choosing anyone alive or past – who would you like to have lunch with?
I would just love to meet Nikki Haley – she is so amazing and inspiring and I am going to start reading her book.

What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?
Be able to walk across the stage and shake the principal’s hand at graduation. I am the Student Council President and I am working with the Administration on a virtual graduation for now. I am very excited that we were able to get a Decision Day Parade approved where we can decorate our cars in our college colors and drive by the teachers in the school parking lot.
